Three hundred kilometers away from Hanoi and located at the highest
latitude of Vietnam, the province of Ha Giang is considered the most
ideal location to organize activities like hiking and camping.

Ethnic minorities abound in the province. The Dao, H’mong, Tay, and Nung
ethnic groups are among the biggest inhabitants of the area. There are
also some who have migrated to the area from China through northern Ha
Giang’s shared border with China.
The province experiences two distinct reasons, rainy and dry, though it
largely tends to vary depending on altitude.
The
Dong Van Highland, one of the province’s best attractions, is
situated 1,025 meters above sea level and is inhabited by the Tay and
H’Mong ethnic groups. Temperatures can get as chilly as 1 degree in
winter and reach 24 degrees on its hottest days. Given the plateau’s
cool climate, plants and fruit trees thrive very well. Dong Van’s apples
are as big as pears. The place is also famous for Hau plums, peaches and
persimmons without seeds.
Numerous valuable plants used for medicines may be found throughout the
area. These include ginseng, anise, and cinnamon.
Visitors
to the province will love strolling through the numerous forests filled
with multi-colored orchids, trees heavy with peaches and plums, and more
than one can imagine.
Mountains, forests, hidden grottoes and caves are just begging to be
explored.
Visiting Dong Van also affords visitors a view of Pho Bang Street.
The street features multi-storey houses made of clay bricks and tile
roofs. On Sundays, tourists can visit the very original mountain market
at Dong Van where all kinds of goods and multi-colored clothes may be
bought.
There
is also the annual Khau Vai Love Market, that is usually
celebrated in May. People gather round meeting and greeting with both
old loves and new loves. Tribes set up stalls selling their local
products like food, vegetables, and local textiles.
Other famous sites in Ha Giang include the Quang Ngan Waterfall
and the Than Thuy-Thien Bao National Frontier Pass.
