With all the offerings for walking tours, culture classes and city sight
explorations, visitors to Chiang Mai will feel the rumblings of a hungry
tummy sooner or later.
Here is a listing of a few food places in Chiang Mai to choose from:
International Cuisine
1.
Art Café (corner Th Tha Phae and Th Kotch-asan)
This easy to find and air-conditioned restaurant offers a selection of
tasty pizzas and a smattering of other dishes from around the globe.
2. Da Stefano (Th Chang Moi Kao)
Popular among courting couples for atmosphere, this restaurant in the
Italian trattoria tradition also offers a large wine selection and very
snappy service.
3. Zest Bakery and Restaurant ( corner Th Moon Muang and Th
Ratchadamnoen)
Lots of tasty sandwiches and wide elbowroom. Designed like a western
Deli, patrons may opt to sit outside and listen to the symphony of
traffic or just do a bit of people watching.

4. Jerusalem Falafel (Th Moon Muang)
Middle-eastern food that just fits well with any visit to Thailand.
5. Fish n Chips (Th Ratwithi)
Located just across the street from the Irish Pub, take a gander at this
little slice of merry old England with all the coffee refills patrons
may want.
Thai Cuisine

1. Khao Soi Islam (Th Charoen Prathet)
A good spot to get some khao sawy (mild chicken curry with flat egg
noodles) and listen to the chatter of diners. It would be good to ask
directions though as there are no Roman script signs at front.
2. Aroon (Rai) Restaurant (Th Kotchasan)
For an authentic culinary trip, head on to the open air pit of Aroon Rai
and feast on pre-made Northern Thai cooking, Thai curry dishes, or
perhaps the kaeng ka-rii kai (chicken curry.)
3. Heuan Phen (Th Ratchamankha)
A favorite among the Thai crowd, this restaurant features both Northern
and Northeastern Thai cuisine. Most dishes here are served with sticky
rice.
4. Heuan Sunthari (Th Wan Singkham)
Open air restaurant found on the west bank of the river, a little north
of Saphan Phra Ram IX. There are also nightly performances by the owner,
famed Northern Thai singer Soontaree Vechanont. Better get directions
going to this place as there are also no Roman-script signs outside.
5. Somphet Market (Th Moon Muang)
Best place to get cheap, take-away Thai food and northern-style
sausages.
Vegetarian
Cuisine
1. Vegetarian Centre of Chiang Mai (Th Mahidon)
Sponsored by the Asoke Foundation, this cafeteria offers dirt-cheap Thai
vegetarian food.
2.
Biaporn (Th Si Phum)
Near the SK Guesthouse, Biaporn is a plain shopfront, which does solid
vegetable dishes and has on display a Thai matchbox collection.
3. Blue Diamond (Th Moon Muang)
Brown bread, shakes, and other healthy treats may be bought at this
friendly veggie hut.
