Title: "Discount Places to Stay at in Singapore "
About: Travel and Tourism Singapore

Singapore is home to many established hotel chains of international renown, but it also offers many less known, but not necessarily less impressive lodging facilities. Here are some of them:

COLONIAL DISTRICT

New 7th Storey Hotel

Well run and reliable, the New 7th Storey Hotel at 229 Roncho road has four bed dorms. The doubles (the more expensive ones have their own bathrooms) are spacious and clean. Pluses include garden patios on which to sunbathe and bike rentals are available from S$2.50 per hour. Internet facilities are also available.

Waterloo Hostel

This spick and span, Catholic-run operation is one of Singapore’s best hostels. Its dorm sleeps eight and there’s a variety of other spacious rooms (you’ll pay more for ones with attached bathrooms) all with breakfast included in the prices.

YMCA International House

This place has a handy location at the colonial district end of Orchard Rd. Although the rooms are average, the place has good facilities, including a fitness center, rooftop swimming pool, squash and badminton courts, billiard room, Internet and a restaurant that serves dishes that wont cost you an arm and a leg.

YWCA Fort Canning Lodge

Has similar list of facilities to YMCA International House and has a good location. The five-bed dorms have air-conditioning, TV and attached bathrooms, the standard rooms are quite stylish with wooden floors.

CHINATOWN

Backpacker Cozy Corner Hotel

There’s neither anything particularly "backpacker-ish" nor cozy about this hotel, but the rooms are freshly-painted and clean.

Chinatown Homestay

This simple guesthouse provides decent-sized clean rooms.

LITTLE INDIA

Inn Crowd

If only all hostels were as welcoming as this brightly painted and well-equipped one is. The air-con dorm sleeps 16 in bunk beds. Rates include breakfast, use of a locker and free Internet access in its comfy ground-floor lounge. The one double room is quite cozy and has a TV set and video facilities.

MacKenzie Hostels

In a quiet area southwest of Little India is this clean, well-run hostel. The cheapest rooms are tiny and windowless, but the others are fine and there’s pleasant open patio, laundry facilities and a kitchen.

Little India Guest House

The rooms are stripped to bare essentials at this guesthouse in the heart of little India – doubles have a bunk bed with a double bed on the base and single on top. All share common bathrooms, which are very clean.

Cactus Hotel

This simple hotel, handy for Lavander Food Square and the buses to Malaysia, offers reasonable rooms with attached bathrooms.

ORCHARD ROAD

New Sandy’s Place

In a residential home (so there’s no sign) this guesthouse is a couple of minutes walk from Newton MRT, next to the Alliance Francaise range from a broom-cupboard single on the 1st floor to a spacious double room, with fan and attached bath, on the 3rd floor. Breakfast is included.
