Except for a few famous landmarks, Java is comparatively less visited
than its more popular neighbor, Bali. This however doesn’t mean that it
doesn’t have its own unique attractions up its sleeve.
For one thing, visitors to Java will not find themselves short of green
corners to visit and explore.
A tour of the national parks on the island reveal spectacular
coastlines, volcanoes just begging to be climbed, and quiet nooks that
are just perfect for meditating and being one with nature.
1.
Ujung Kulon
A jewel of a park located at Java’s southwestern tip, Ujung Kulon offers
visitors with excellent kayaking and trekking opportunities that offer
glimpses of the diverse wildlife inhabiting the park grounds including
the endangered Java rhinoceros.
The Park is best accessed by boat though most visitors may find it more
convenient and cheaper to book a tour with a group rather than travel
independently.
2.
Gede Pangrango
Situated near the hill station town of Bogor, the park makes for a good
weekend trip with its many walking and hiking trails set amidst lush
trees and all sorts of flora.
For those going up to the peak, it is advised that they prepare what
provisions they’ll need and allow for at least 8 to 10 hours for the
return trip.
3.
Bromo-Tengger-Semeru
The highest peak at Java at a height of 3,676 meters, Semeru is a
two-day trip from the town of Ranu Pani. This particular route also
provides good alternatives to the usual trips to see caldera-rim
sunrises.
4.
Meru Betiri
Animal lovers would have a ball at this Park where the probability of
sightings of green turtles, wild pigs, jungle cats, and monkeys can be
pretty good. Occasionally, there are also leopards and a few odd Java
tigers that may be glimpsed among the bushes.
5.
Baluran
Designed to resemble the African savannah, this little piece of Africa
may be found at the northeastern part of Java. The dry months of May to
November is the best time to check out the park residents for that is
when the usually animals flock to the watering holes in droves.
6.
Alas Purwo
Another good spot to do some wildlife spotting, this relatively unknown
park also features a stunning coastline which includes the beaches at
Grajagan. This spot is also better known for its reputation as a mecca
for surfing, G-Land.
