Title: "Kampot: Resting in Between"
About: Travel and Tourism Cambodia

Easily accessible by roads from Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville is the beautiful riverside town of Kampot.

A lot of tourists in the area use Kampot as a base for further excursions to the beach resorts of Kep and the abandoned hill station of Bokor. Whether for a relaxing stopover or a daytrip going round the town, Kampot’s laid-back charm is truly undeniable.

What to See:

A series of small rapids called Tek Chhouu Falls offer a cool relief from the often dry climate of Cambodia. Located just 7km out of town, the Falls is a popular bathing spot for locals and tourists alike particularly during the weekends.

Where to Stay in Kampot:

Phnom Khieu Hotel (Central Roundabout; Tel.no: 012-820923)

A hotel with clean, spacious roos with a TV and fridge. It may not exactly win awards for character, but visitors are assured of good rooms at just right prices.

Mealy Chenda Guesthouse (near Psar Leu; Tel.no: 012-831559)

A friendly place to stay in with their garden restaurant and cheerful staff who give pretty good tips about nearby attractions in the area.

Ta Eng Guesthouse (Tel.no. 012-330058)

Originally an old wooden house,l the Ta Eng Guesthouse is now a spacious guesthouse popular with backpackers owned by a proprietor who speaks both French and English.

Sok San Guesthouse (Central Roundabout; Tel.no; 012-932665)

Amenities at this hotel located atop the shops at the middle of town include 23 guest rooms with fans, satellite TV, and a bathroom.

Borey Bokor Hotel (Tel.no: 012-932826)

A big hotel with amenities which may be expected from “big hotels”: television, fridge, hot water, and air conditioners. This hotel is also kept immaculately clean by very well-trained cleaners.

Where to Eat:

Ta Eou Restaurant (Northern end of the river road)

Sunset meals and views across to Bokor may be had from this restaurant built on stilts over the river.

Prochum Mit Restaurant

A restaurant specializing in Cambodian native dishes, it is not unusual to find yourself elbow to elbow with a Khmer crowd. In the evenings, the streets are filled with a number of tukalok (fruit shake) vendors.

Mittapheap Restaurant (northeastern corner of Psar Leu)

A favorite eating place with officials from the French Embassy. Great soups, very reasonable prices.

Mealy Chenda is the only guest house where travellers can drink beer.

Little Garden Bar is Kampot’s first real bar, set in the garden of a colonial house. Cocktails and wines are also sold at very reasonable prices here.

Getting around:

Want to get around town or its neighboring areas on your own? Sean Ly Motor Shop rents out small motorbikes for $2.00, big bikes for $4.00, and mini buses or cars for trips to Bokor at the cheap price of $25.00.
